People focus

A turbulent year for health and social care. In addition to the ongoing problem of ‘gridlocked’ care highlighted in last year’s State of Care report, the cost of living crisis is biting harder for the public, staff and providers – and workforce pressures have escalated.

Working closely with the CQC editorial team, we evolved our concept of last year as a continuation of the people focused theme to a geographical perspective and the inequalities of access and integrated care across the country.

The result is an England-shaped graphic reminiscent of a statistical bubble chart that uses different sized colour-coded ‘bubbles’ as windows to scenes to represent those inequalities and how the focuses can often overlap, e.g. Maternity/staff retention.

“The cost of living crisis and workforce challenges exacerbate existing health inequalities, increasing the risk of a two-tier system of health care. People who cannot afford to pay could end up waiting longer for care while their health deteriorates.”
