Care Quality Commission Annual Report 2020

State of Care

Each year the Care Quality Commission (CQC) reports to Parliament and the public The State of health care and adult social care in England. The role of CQC is as an independent regulator, to register health and adult social care service providers in England and to inspect whether or not standards are being met.

An evolving report.

The way in which CQC presents its annual report continues to evolve. Moving away from PDFs in favour of a more accessible online format – relying on only short-run digital printing for events and of course laying before Parliament.

The core concept and graphic devices are more important than ever, connecting the report across more and more platforms.

Our concept for 2021 focuses on the many challenges and lessons that overlap across the sectors of health and care services in England. The sectors are represented by carefully chosen images and, as with previous reports, we have used the established sector colour palette for the primary band of the image windows – the outer bands are then tints that overlap to varying degrees with the others.

Sectors: Adult social care, Hospitals, Community health and Ambulance services, Mental Health care, Primary medical services, Equality in health and social care and The Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).

Campaign and interactive support.

This year our concept design feeds through to a library of social media graphics to accompany posts and for the first time we have supported the CQC in-house web team with interactive charts for the online report presentation, created with Highcharts/Everviz
